1. GENERAL INFORMATION
- In accordance with the Brazilian legislation, goods donated, worth US $1,000.00 or more, by foreign institutions or individuals, as long as they are destined to non-profit and legally operating Brazilian institutions dedicated to scientific, educational or philanthropic and social assistance activities are exempt of taxes.
- The donation must be officialized through a typed letter of the donating institution on the organization letterhead paper, in three original copies. All the originals must be signed by the person responsible for the institution (photocopies will not be accepted), with his/her full name (without abbreviation) and title.
- The originals must be certified by a notary public, except letters of donations from universities, and legalized by the provincial government (see legalization) before submission to the Consulate General.
- The donor will have to provide the following pieces of information: name, CNPJ (Cadastro Nacional de Pessoa Jurídica/Fiscal Identification Number of the Receiving Institution), its address, value of each item donated (for customs clearance). The donor will also have to certify that the itens donated will be thoroughly free of charge.
- The legalization of donation letters is exempt of consular fees
- After legalization, the donor will have the original documents back. He/she will also have to forward one of the three original letters and will have to attach a photocopy of the certified Bill of Lading or Airway Bill.
- The processing time for the legalization of documents of donation is 3 working days.
