1. GENERAL INFOMATION
- Military Service in Brazil is compulsory for every male Brazilian citizen (Brazilian Decree n° 1.294, from the 26 th of October 1994).
- The male Brazilian citizen living abroad must come personally to the Consulate General for the mandatory military registration until the 30th of June of the year in which he will be 18 years old.
- The military registration will be compulsory until the 31 st. of December of the year in which the male Brazilian citizen will be 45 years old.
- The Consulate General of Brazil in Toronto issues military registration certificates to all male Brazilian citizens who live in the Canadian province under its jurisdiction: Ontario (except Ottawa ), Manitoba , Alberta , British Columbia , Saskatchewan , Yukon , Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
- Every male Brazilian citizen with a military registration certificate issued abroad will have obligations to the Brazilian Ministry of Defence.
- The male Brazilian citizen who does not have his military registration certificate will be subject to the payment of fines and will not have a legal military situation.
- Once registered abroad, the male Brazilian citizen, if he returns to the Brazilian territory, must go in person to the Military Registration Office (Junta Militar) of the city where he was born, in a delay of 30 days counted from the day of his arrival in Brazil.
2. REQUIREMENTS
- The applicant must come personally to the Consulate General to sign his Military Registration Certificate and leave his fingerprint on it.
Documents
a) Brazilian birth certificate (*);
b) Valid Brazilian Passport or valid Brazilian identity card (*);
c) 3 (three) pictures of 3cmx4 cm, white background, full front view of head and shoulders, without white strips on the upper or lower sides. Computerized or digitalized photos will not be accepted; and
d) Proof of residence in Canada ; school letter for students.( * ) = original and a photocopy.
Form
- Fill up, date and sign the military registration form.
Fee
- The military registration does not require any payment.
3. PROCESSING TIME
- The processing time for the issuance of a military registration certificate is 05 working days.
4. POSTPONEMENT OF I NCORPORATION
- As long as he lives abroad, the male Brazilian citizen will have to request annually the postponement of his military incorporation (between the 1st. of January and the 31st of December). He will have to submit for that purpose his original Military Registration Certificate.
5. RE-ISSUANCE OF A MILITARY REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE
- The Consulate General of Brazil in Toronto only re-issues a military registration certificate for the ones who have previously registered here. If not, he must request the re-issuance to the organ which originally issued the certificate.

- The same document requested in item 2.1 only for the ones who have been previously registered at the Consulate General of Brazil in Toronto.
Form
- Fill up, date and sign the form to apply for the re-issuance of a military registration certificate.
Fine
- The fine for the re-issuance a Military Regsitration Certificate can be paid in Brazil , in any Military Registration Office (Junta Militar).
Processing time
- The Processing time for the re-issuance of a military registration certificate is 05 working days.
6. MAIL SERVICE
- Only the postponement of incorporation can be done by mail. In this case, it is necessary the original military registration certificate and the pre-paid and self-addressed Canada Post envelope ( registered mail, xpresspost ou priority courier ) for return. Only the services of Canada Post are accepted. The Consulate is not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged or delayed mail.
7. ATTENTION
- Make sure the documents submitted are complete. Incomplete applications will be automatically returned.
