1. GENERAL INFORMATION
- The passport and other travel documents are property of the Brazilian Government, being the bearer entitled to its possession and regular use. They can be retained by governmental agents in case of fraud or misuse.
- The governmental Decree no. 1.983, from the 14th of August 1996 , establishes the common passport may have a validity of up to 5 years.
- A passport requested and not picked-up within 90 (ninety) days will be cancelled.
2. REQUIREMENTS
2.1 REPLACEMENT OF EXPIRED AND/OR USED-UP PASSPORTS
Documents
a) old passport (which will be cancelled and returned to its bearer);
b) Brazilian identity card or Brazilian birth certificate (*);
c) Brazilian marriage certificate, together with the Brazilian identity card, when there is a name change which has not been done yet in the identity card (*);
d) naturalization certificate, for foreign nationals who have obtained the Brazilian citizenship (*);
e) military registration certificate for males between 18 and 45 years old. For foreign nationals who have obtained the Brazilian citizenship the military registration certificate is required at any age, after the citizenship is granted; (*);
f) 1 (one) recent picture 5 (five) cm x 5 (five) cm (2 x 2 inches), white background, full front view of head and shoulders, without white strips on the upper or lower sides;
g) proof of legal status concerning the electoral obligations http://www.tse.gov.br/internet/servicos_eleitor/quitacao.htm.
(*) Original or notarized copy and an extra photocopy. The Consulate-General does not provide copies of documents.

- Fill up, date and sign the Travel Document form at https://scedv.serpro.gov.br;.
Fee
- The consular fee for the issuance of a Brazilian passport is Cnd $100.00, which must be paid through "money order" or " certified cheque " to the " Consulate General of Brazil in Toronto ". Cash, debit or credit cards will not be accepted.
2.2 REPLACEMENT OF LOST, STOLEN OR DAMAGED PASSPORT
Documents
Form
- Fill up, date and sign the form of Loss, Stealth or Destruction of a Travel Document.
a) police report in case of lost or stolen passport; or damaged passport (when applicable);
b) Brazilian identity card or Brazilian birth certificate (*);
c) Brazilian marriage certificate, together with the Brazilian identity card, when there is a name change which has not been done yet in the identity card (*);
d) naturalization certificate, for foreign nationals who have obtained the Brazilian citizenship (*);
e) military registration certificate for males between 18 and 45 years old. For foreign nationals who have obtained the Brazilian citizenship the military registration certificate is required at any age, after the citizenship is granted; (*)

Fee
- The consular fee for the replacement of a lost, stolen or damaged passport is Cnd $200,00, which must be paid through " money order" or " certified cheque " to the Consulate General of Brazil in Toronto . ". Cash, debit or credit cards will not be accepted.
2.3. PASSPORTS FOR MINORS (UNDER 18 YEARS OLD)
Documents
a) former passport (which will be cancelled and returned to the applicant);
b) birth certificate (*);
c) 1 (one) recent picture, 5 (five) cm x 5 (five) cm (2 x 2 inches), white background, full front view of head and shoulders, without white strips on the upper or lower sides; and
d) authorization of the parents or legal representatives for the issuance of a passport for minors.
(*) Original or notarized copy and an extra photocopy. The Consulate-General does not provide copies of documents.
Important remarks
- The parent who is not able to come personally to the Consulate must sign the authorization for the issuance of a passport for minors before a notary public and add the valid identification document;
- The lack or impossibility for obtaining the signatures required for the issuance of a passport for minors can be replaced by a court legal order;
- In case one of the parents is deceased, the death certificate must be presented;
- The name of the mother in the minor's passport will be the name appearing in the Brazilian birth certificate. For the one who were not registered at the Consulate, a Brazilian marriage certificate must be presented with the mother's name after marriage.

3. MAIL SERVICE
- The application/issuance of a passport can be done through postal service. In this case, copies of the documents required will be accepted if duly authenticated by notary public, except the former/expired passport the original of which must be presented.
- The applicant's signature must be properly notarized on the application forms.
- For return of the passport, it is necessary to send a pre-paid and self-addressed form of Canada Post (registered mail, xpresspost ou priority courier ). Other courier services will not be accepted.
- The Consulate General is not responsible for loss, stealth, damage or delay of the mail.
4. ATTENTION
To guarantee the processing of your passport application, please make sure to submit all required documents. Send a copy of each document with the originals or authenticated copies. Only complete applications will be accepted. The incomplete ones will be automatically returned.
