1. REQUIREMENTS
ELIGIBILITY
1.1. Conditions:
a) scientific, technologic or volunteer activities under the umbrella of an international cooperation program;
b) professorial studies/ research/ teaching and/or pursue scientific/ technologic activities at an university, research, or similar organization;
c) attend school under an approved exchange student program;
d) work as an unpaid intern benefitting from a scholarship under the umbrella of a program sponsored by a Brazilian governmental agency, an international organization, or an authorized exchange students institution;
e) receive technical training in the operation and/or maintenance of machinery or equipment produced in Brazil; and
f) receive training in Brazil as an under 21-year old amateur athlete.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1.2. Visa holders are prohibited from holding any paid job in Brazil. A professor, scientist, or researcher pursuing activities at an university, research, or similar organization is allowed to be paid a "pro-labore" by a Brazilian party for short term activities (under 90-day stays only). Scholarship payment by a Brazilian party is otherwise permitted).
1.3. For extended stays (a minimum of 6 months) the same type of visa can be issued to immediate family members. Those are, however, prohibited from engaging in any paid activity in Brazil.
1.4. This visa is good for multiple entries within the visa's duration. If necessary, a visa extension may be issued by the Federal Police in Brazil, if requested at least 30 days prior to the expiration of the authorized stay (special requirements apply).
1.5. Visitors must register with the Federal Police in Brazil within 30 days from first arrival in the country (together with the passport, you must submit the original visa application form that will be returned to you by the Consulate once the visa is issued).
1.6. Brazilian nationals must enter and leave Brazil with their Brazilian passport only.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
1.7. One visa application form per applicant properly filled out online (https://scedv.serpro.gov.br), printed and duly signed (parents must sign for those under 18 years old and have their signature notarized), together with the following documentation:
a) passport with a minimum remaining validity of six months (it must also have at least 2 blank pages available for visa stamp);
b) for non-Canadian returning to Canada, copy of Permanent Resident Card or valid Canadian visa allowing for re-entry into Canada;
c) for non-Canadian without a Permanent Resident card or valid Canadian visa, valid visa to country of final destination after trip to Brazil (this requirement does not apply to applicants returning to country of citizenship);
d)One recent photograph 5cmx5cm ( 2”x 2”) of applicant. Please glue the photograph on the form as indicated;

| - The picture must be taken against an off-white plain background. | |
| - The applicant’s face and shoulders must be centralized on the camera and he or she must be looking into the camera. | |
| - No reflections, shadows or glares are accepted in the picture. | |
| - The length from the bottom of chin to the top of the head must be between 31 and 36mm (millimetres) in heigth. | |
| - The facial expression must be neutral. | |
| - The eyes must be open and clearly visible. | |
| - Glasses should not reflect any light. Neither sunglasses nor colorful frames are acceptable (no sunglasses or colored lens accepted). | |
| - No head covering, excepting the ones used for religious reasons as long as they still enable the perfect visibility of the applicant’s face. | |
| - Children carrying toys, with pacifier or showing the hands of the adult holding them will not be accepted. | |
e) proof of residence in the consular jurisdiction;
f) whenever the planned stay exceeds 90 days, recent non-criminal record issued by the local (i.e., applicant's place of residence) Police Department (if applicant is of a criminally liable age);
g)as applicable (i.e., if applying for an extended-stay visa to immediate family members), copy of marriage certificate, birth certificate, or other official dependency document;
h)Yellow fever vaccination certificate, as applicable, i.e., if applicant traveled within the last 90 days to any of the following countries: Angola, Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Colombia, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, French Guiana, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Suriname, Tanzania, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda or Venezuela. Please note that yellow fever vaccination is advisable if applicant's destination in Brazil includes any of the following States or regions: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Federal District, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima, Tocantins, south of Piauí, west and south of Bahia, north of Espírito Santo, northwest of São Paulo, west of Paraná, west of Santa Catarina and west of Rio Grande do Sul.
i) as applicable, polio vaccination certificate (only for children between the ages of 3 months and 6 years);
j) as applicable (for activities under an international cooperation program), copy of the international agreement, proof of professional expertise, and letter from sponsoring organization informing activities to be pursued by applicant and attesting to the following: that the organization will be responsible for repatriating the applicant (and his/her family, as applicable) once the visa expires or the agreement ceases to exist, and that the applicant will not receive any payment from a Brazilian party;
k) as applicable (for professorial, research, or scientific activities), letter from Brazilian sponsoring organization informing activities to be pursued and pecuniary conditions;
l) as applicable (for exchange students), i) letter from school, college or university in Brazil confirming the enrollment or acceptance of the student and informing the duration of studies; ii) parents' notarized authorization (if applicant is under 18 years old); iii) proof of financial capability to pay for the stay in Brazil; iv) letter from the sponsoring Brazilian exchange students program organization, stating the student's inclusion of the program, name and location of the educational institution, as well as the address/ names/ qualifications of responsible parties of "hosting family" in Brazil; and v) copy of the Brazilian exchange students program organization bylaws, and its Cadastro Nacional de Pessoas Jurídicas;
m) as applicable (for interns), notarized copy of agreement ("termo de compromisso") between the intern and the Brazilian organization or institution, attesting to the conditions for internship, scholarship, and the required involvement of a Brazilian government agency, international cooperation organization, or authorized exchange organization (in this case, add copy of its bylaws, official registration, and Cadastro Nacional de Pessoas Jurídicas);
n) as applicable (for technical training), letter from employer attesting to the fact that applicant will not receive salary or payment of any kind by a Brazilian party, and letter from Brazilian corporation informing the nature of the training to be provided and attesting to the fact that it will be hold responsible for the applicant while in Brazil;
o)as applicable (for athletic training), parents' authorization (if applicant is under 18 years old), recent non-criminal record issued by local Police Department (if applicant is of a criminally liable age), copy of birth certificate, copy of the agreement/contract between the Canadian and the Brazilian organization, and copy of document(s) attesting to the following: confirmation of training for applicant for a specified period, maintenance conditions, and guarantee of repatriation of applicant once the visa expires; and
p) appropriate visa and legalization payments, as applicable.
1.8. The requirements are not all-inclusive. When processing a visa submission, the Consulate may request additional information/documentation.
1.9.All supporting documentation that is not originated in Brazil must be legalized by the Brazilian Consulate. Copy of Brazilian supporting documents must be notarized by a Notary Public (“Cartório”) in Brazil.
CONSULAR FEES
1.10.The consular fee for a Temporary Visa I is of Cnd $84.00 (eighty-four Canadian dollars), which must be paid by means of money order or certified cheque to the “Consulate General of Brazil in Toronto”. Cash, personal cheques, credit card or debit card will not be accepted.
1.11. Visa fee: Money order for CDN$ 84.00 (eighty-four Canadian dollars), plus CDN$ 28.00 (twenty-eight Canadian dollars) if submitted by third party or by mail. Cash, personal cheques, credit card or debit card will not be accepted;
1.12. Self-addressed pre-paid envelope from Canada Post (Xpress Post or Priority Courier), for the return of the documentation;
PROCESSING TIME
The minimum processing time for a visa is 10 (ten) working days, depending on the demand, not included the days used by the services provided by Canada Post. Urgent cases will be analyzed by the Consulate and will be accommodated within its possibilities WITHOUT ANY EXTRA FEES, as usual. It is important that urgent cases be presented personally. The Consulate will not recognize urgency when presented through a third party. The Consulate cannot recommend travel/visa services firms and makes it clear that all of them receive same treatment by the Visa Section of this Consulate.
Before contacting the Consulate please check the status of your application online (https://scedv.serpro.gov.br). You should see “ready for collection” before you come to the Consulate in person for pick up.
APPLICATIONS BY MAIL
The same requirements above apply plus a pre-paid and self-addressed envelope (only Canada Post “Xpresspost”, “Priority Courier” or “Registered Mail” will be accepted) and a processing fee of Cnd$ 28,00 (twenty-eight Canadian dollars) per person (money order or certified cheque payable to the Consulate-General of Brazil in Toronto).
